Some Favourite Art Tools

Here are some of my favourite art tools that I use in the studio and while out painting. You’re probably expecting me to show my favourite brushes and paints. Not this time because I want to show you the quiet helpers that make painting life that much easier.

It is an odd assortment of tools but I would be lost without them. For example, the spray bottle I have had for years now and it delivers a fine misty spray to help stop the acrylic paint from drying out and also to create those juice drips I love in abstract painting.

The tapes come in very handy to keep edges of the board or canvas clean, or to lay over an area to create a crisp straight line such as horizon lines or a building side.

Palette knives are exceptionally helpful in mixing paint and also applying it, along with adding a little detail here and there.

All the scrapers I have accumulated are fun to use in my abstract paintings to create various marks, lines and swirls. There are lots in my tool box.

These are just some of the unsung heroes in the studio but well used and much loved.
